In the laboratory, the surface and interfacial characteristics (surface and interfacial tension, wetting angles, adhesion work, spreading coefficient) of not only inorganic melts (glasses, casting powders, slags, metal melts) up to a temperature of 1600 °C can be experimentally determined. Measurements can be carried out under vacuum (approx. 1 Pa) or in a suitably selected inert gas flow atmosphere. When testing bulk materials (casting powders, slags, agglomerates), it is necessary to supply a tightly compressed sample in the form of a tablet, the weight of which should not exceed 1 g.  A cube or cylinder weighing approximately 0.7 g may be supplied for metallic materials.
