FMST Student Wins National Competition for Best Thesis in Silicate Materials

Bc. Ivana Vlčková, a student at the Faculty of Materials Science and Technology (FMST) of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, has won first place in a national competition for the best thesis in the field of silicate materials. The competition is organised annually by the Silicate Society of the Czech Republic. She received the award for her thesis exploring the use of ceramic 3D printing in the design of interior elements.

The competition recognises outstanding bachelor's and master's theses from Czech universities focusing on silicate materials. An expert jury comprising representatives from academia and industry evaluates not only the academic quality of the theses but also the authors' ability to present their findings effectively.

Ivana Vlčková, a student in the Green Technologies study programme, impressed the jury with her thesis entitled Design of Interior Elements Utilizing Ceramic 3D Printing Technology. Her work explored the potential of ceramic 3D printing in the design and production of interior elements. By combining modern additive manufacturing technologies with design and materials engineering, she demonstrated the potential of these technologies to create innovative solutions for interior design.

Second place went to Oskar Chmel from the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, for his thesis Corrosion Resistance of GdBCO/Ag Bulks Prepared by SDMG and TSMG. Third place was awarded to Matyáš Mikula, also from the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, for his thesis Preparation of Transparent CaF₂ Ceramics by Low-Temperature Sintering.

Ivana Vlčková's achievement is a significant recognition of her academic work and highlights the opportunities created by combining materials research, modern manufacturing technologies, and design. Ceramic 3D printing is a promising field that opens up new possibilities for the development and production of both functional and aesthetically appealing elements.

Congratulations to Ivana Vlčková on this outstanding achievement! We wish her continued success in her studies and future career.
